Pulau Hantu is around 9 kilometers south of mainland Singapore, making it easily accessible by boat. It’s generally reached via dive operators who run boat trips to the island. The boat ride usually takes about 30-40 minutes.
Dates for such a trip could be scheduled on weekends throughout the year, depending on availability and weather conditions.
Water Visibility: The water clarity around Pulau Hantu can vary, with visibility ranging from 5 to 10 meters depending on the weather and tidal conditions. It can sometimes be a bit murky due to the proximity to Singapore’s busy shipping lanes, but it remains a great place to explore marine life in spite of this.
Water Temperature: The water is typically warm year-round, ranging from 28 to 30°C (82–86°F), which makes diving here comfortable for most divers without the need for heavy wetsuits.
In deeper waters, there are occasional sightings of pelagic fish, such as barracudas and jacks, although these are less frequent in comparison to reef species.
Macro Life: The area is also known for macro photography opportunities, with small critters like nudibranchs, seahorses, and shrimps often found in the shallows.
Turtles and Rays: Divers may encounter sea turtles and sometimes stingrays or eagle rays around the reef areas.
Pulau Hantu offers several dive sites suitable for both novice and experienced divers:
The depth around the South Jetty is relatively shallow, ranging from 5 meters near the shore to about 10-15 meters as you move further out, which is ideal for a relaxed dive with plenty of time to explore the coral and marine life.
